Black Forest is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) located in El Paso County, Colorado. As of 2023, the population is approximately 15,307. Black Forest is part of the Colorado Springs Metropolitan Statistical Area, sitting just northeast of the city at an elevation of about 7,575 feet. The area is named after its dense forest of Ponderosa pine trees and has a rural charm combined with suburban developments.

Black Forest spans an area of about 100.63 square miles, with minimal water coverage. Known for its scenic beauty, the region offers a peaceful lifestyle while still being close to the amenities of Colorado Springs. The community voted against incorporation as a town in 2006, opting to remain a CDP with limited local governance.

Geography

Black Forest is situated in northern El Paso County, Colorado, bordering the town of Monument to the west and Falcon to the south. The area is characterized by its sprawling pine forests, hilly terrain, and open plains. It provides excellent opportunities for outdoor activities, including hiking, horseback riding, and wildlife observation. The community is surrounded by natural beauty, including Black Forest Regional Park, which offers year-round recreational opportunities.

The area experiences a semi-arid climate, typical of the region, with cool winters and warm summers. Its proximity to both Pikes Peak and Colorado Springs allows residents easy access to city amenities and mountain adventures alike.
